1. Journalism:is the art and a profession which
record events, and seeks to interpret and mould them for the benefit of the
educated public. Its history is the story in the words of an American writer
“of humanity’s long struggle to communicate freely with each other to dig out
and interpret news and to offer intelligent opinion in the market place of
ideas. Part of the story has as it theme, the continuing effects by men and
women to break down barriers that have been erected to prevent the flow of
information and ideas upon which public opinion is so largely dependent
(Parthasarathy 1991)
Man does not live by bread alone , no doubt food enrich his body but
knowledge and information him make complete ,perfect and rational They go a
long way in providing him a sense of satisfaction and a feeling of fulfillment
in which he lives .
Require of knowledge and gather information on what he wanted and what in
happing around him. Therefore, quest for knowledge and the thirst for information
are in a theme immemorial phenomenon and as old has man, himself. In other
words, there has been inherent desire in man to know and then act on the basis
of information. This curiosity has made him knowledgeable and heralds a new era
of progress and prosperity of the society with ideas, information and
knowledge. He has not only achieved tremendous success in his life but also
brought about an al round development in the society today what he is might not
have been the same and he remained uninformed and Ignorant. Lack of information
might pose as a serious threat even to his survival and degrade his
personality. Hence for his own safety and prosperity he stives the best in
acquiring and changing with his fellow beings continuous and prolonged hard work
in this regard resulted among other things in the setting up of media including
the newspapers (Padhey an Dsahu 1997) that the people should be properly and
sufficient informed. Since it is essential aspect of human life is evident from
the fact that even in the older days, Kings and Nobles spread news through
their messengers and proclamations were read out in public places. It is also
evident from Hindu mythology that the news was verbally supplied by one man
Narada a great saint and journalist and a reporter of high order.

Conclusion
The study has revealed that little
space is devoted to one of the most important and predicted mach in the recent
times in India. The Indian Premier League’s news coverage in the present two
Malayalam news papers reveled through this. (The Malayalamanorama and The
Matrubhumi). The news papers have put more efforts in their coverage to the IPL
news. Other news like Politics, economics, business, advertisement etc… are
given find a lot of space in the newspapers. Among the sample dailies
Malayalamanorama has devoted more space to IPL news than its counterpart
Matrubhumi.
While dealing with
the match and the play of IPL, it is found that the news papers have given a
satisfactory coverage to it. They were successful in getting the latest news on
time as IPL had night matches. The eye
catching photographs of players used on the front page of Malayalamanorama and
both in sports page. The graphics were also made use of. Some kind of
exaggeration was also made to give a color to the story. This should be
dispensed and objectivity should be taken care.
Number of stories about
the IPL have mentioned in both news papers , which makes the people informative
, educative about the IPL and its well beings, also many stories made
inspiration to the people on IPL and cricket. These two news papers have given
very good coverage of the present situation of the IPL and about the players.
The impact of IPL on people have mentioned in the news papers. The study shows
that the news papers have done the good role in IPL, that they could inform
everything on time specially about the schedule and coming matches, etc….. The
news papers have reported about different matches of IPL, even though the FIFA world cup has taken place on this time
,they did not give much priority to it. But they maintained all the readers
well treated. This season of IPL have caused corruption and other problems such
as world cup Fifa tournament and 2014 general elections. The tournament is
jointly hosted by Indian and united Arab emirates. Malayalamanorama has given
more about this news rather than Matrubhumi.
The experiences of
the players are the one area where news
papers succeeded in terms of quality also in terms of space devotion. The
amazing experiences of the players sometimes were given front page coverage in
both dailies Malayalamanorama is given more importence to it obviously.
With regard to the
photograph all the two news papers have deled enough space. The photos with profound news values
were given in sports page coverage mostly with fife colum story. With regarded to the quality of the papers
Matrubhumi is one step below because most of the day their sports page is in
black and white mode. Sometimes they published in color mode even then it’s not
in extreme, where Malayalamanorama published their full page in color mode and
in extreme quality. It can be understood when both the papers are handled for
this purpose. The photo size they are giving is tolerable, But Malayalamanorama
gives a good quality of pictures rather than Matrubhumi.
Matrubhumi could
find a place in sports page for advertisement, that advertisement may be in
color if all other news are in black and white mood where as Malayalamanorama
never published a news paper with advertisement in sports page that can be a
quality of Malayalamanorama. Inform,
education , entertainment are some of the primary charactrristics of medias.
But when sports page is used for advertisement and that advertisement is in
colour mode anyone may think that the primary principals of news paper is
refused
The image
adding style is different from one to other, in most of the days matrubhumi
used the style of a cropped image of single players, that gives a different
look to the sports page. Where Malayalamanorama never tried this kind of idea,
they always preferred the full size
photo mode in sports page
The other
specialty is that Malayalamanorama had an sub heading for some news in sports
page , so by reading the main heading and sub heading a good reader can easily
take in to mind about the content of that news. So this idea is good Matrubhumi
failed in using this tricks.
A person, who is a
regular reader of Matrubhumi can follow the news and its language very well,
But if a person reads matrubhumi for the first time he will be confused with
the language and it’s components. But if the reader is reading Malayalamanorama
for the first time he may be able to follow the language very well. The specialty of Malayalamanorama is that
they are publishing the news with short and accurate. Where as Matrubhumi is
publishing the news in order to fill the space. In taking of
IPL, Malayalamanorama some days have published two news, when mathrubhumi had
only one, it’s because Malayalamanorama could get news before printing it , as
the mach was in night many of the play results have missed by the Matrubhumi. But Malayalamanorama had
published all the news of matrubhumi so its clear that Malayalamanorama
is more accurate in terms of news collecting, they could never cheat its
readers and they are giving much effort in collecting good and use full news
for the people. Both the news papers have put time on entertainment too. But as
Matrubhumi in black and white mode their planning doesn’t work properly,
Malayalamanorama have tried do its best on dealing with the news and its
condition. On the other way a Matrhubhumi reader never like to read other news
that’s a specialty of Matrhubhumi.
Even though
Malayalamanorama and Matrubhumi deals with good news Malayalamanorama is
providing more interesting facts with that a common man can enjoy themselves.
They are providing more activated types of entertainment such as lucky tip or
money bank etc. But other dailies are not proving much of this kind of
entertainment.
IPL
has given a lot of enjoyment to the people. As many people cannot watch the
match lively it’s the duty of the news papers to bring about the news of that
day’s match. In taking account of Malayalamanorama and Matrhubhumi both have
tried in doing well, they have put a lot of energy behind it. But they never
missed their own way of presenting the issue.
